The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announces ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign numbers
Dixon,IL — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today announced it issued fifteen (15) citations during the recent Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” enforcement period.
“Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, we helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts save lives,” said Sgt. Derek Ranken.
While Illinois’ 2020 seat belt compliance rate was 94.6%, unbelted occupants still account for over half of those killed in traffic crashes. The “Click It or Ticket” campaign aims to change the behavior of the millions of people who don’t buckle up. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every vehicle occupant was properly restrained when traveling.
During the enforcement period, Lee County wrote one (1) citation for seat belt violations and took the following additional actions:
One (1) DUI arrest
Three (3) suspended/revoked licenses
Two (2) uninsured motorists
Three (3) speeding citations
Two (2) electronic communication citations
One (1) drug arrest
Eight (8) warnings for other traffic offenses
The Illinois “Click It or Ticket” campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds.
