ASHTON — The Ashton Community Walk will be held during Ashton's Summer Celebration on Saturday, June 10. In 2012, the Ashton Community Walk was born to benefit individuals, families and causes in the small community of Ashton.
The Ashton Community Fund has assisted over 100 individuals and families since its inception. Over the past six years the fund has raised and distributed over $25,000. The fund is made possible by community members who attend our walk and make donations, which allow us to “Pay It Forward.” This has been successful because of the generosity of the Ashton and surrounding communities who support our efforts to make a difference in the lives of people in need. Help has been given in the form of cash, gas cards, gift cards to restaurants, and many more acts of kindness throughout our community. The support and response for the fund has been tremendous.
The Community Walk will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Registration will be from 9-9:45 a.m.
A kick-off ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. with the walk beginning after. The walk will be approximately 3.2 miles and will offer the option of a shorter walk for those that wouldn't like to go the 3.2 miles.
This family-friendly event is non-timed and strollers, wagons, bikes and pets are welcome to walk or run. We will also have bandanas for dogs and dog drinking stations throughout the walk. Everyone young and old is welcome to join us.
Registration is $15 and forms are available at The Ashton Gazette, Ralphie and LuLu's and Crest Foods and other locations throughout Ashton and Franklin Grove. The deadline to receive a shirt the day of the race is June 1. For more information contact Denise Coffman at 815-751-8685 or mail registrations to Ashton Community Walk, P.O. Box 349, Ashton, IL 61006. Please join us in supporting the community fund and help our community “Pay It Forward.”
