FGNC holds annual picnic

            BY KATHY CLARK

We had wonderful time at our picnic. The morning started out rainy, but we just went ahead and prepared for our extra special day. The rain went around us and we stayed totally dry. Our friends from Furry Babies Petting Zoo arrived with all of their precious pets. We set up the fun games and bounce house, prepared for pictures and welcomed the Cargills with their horses and wagon. Jim Wolber and his Lariat Band moved all of their equipment in and we were ready for a picnic. And did we have an awesome picnic? So many family and friends joined us to enjoy our very special 50thanniversary afternoon. The children loved the petting zoo, the games, the bounce house and all of the delicious treats.  Everyone said the band was great and they played so many of our favorites. Our friend, Rena Coy, was very busy taking family photos and we can’t wait to see them. The Cargills were kept very busy as so many people took the opportunity to have a fun ride with their beautiful horses. Our dietary department did an excellent job with the food, it was delicious. We thank our staff for their fine work and the excellent job they did with preparations and providing hospitality. There were so many nice compliments through out the afternoon. We bundled up, shared the joy and had an excellent time celebrating 50 years. You can check out our Facebook page to view all of the fun events.

Monday brought relaxation and “Chip Bingo.” We had fun prizes with an assortment of chips for our prizes. It is fun to taste test some of the new flavors.

Tuesday brought a visit from our friends, the staff at Granny Rose Animal Shelter. We had spent time on Monday baking dog biscuits and we were excited to share them with the adorable pets. There are so many precious animals waiting there to find there ‘Fur-ever” home. If you are looking for a new best friend we suggest you stop by the shelter.

This week we are welcoming Priscilla Brickley from Dixon and we look forward to sharing good times together. We hope you will drop a card of welcome in the mail for her.

We are looking forward to a visit from our friends, “The Reynolds Merry Music Makers” on Wednesday evening. These folks from the Reynolds Church bring lots of joy and laughter with their visits. We look forward to seeing what hat Denny Yocum will come with. The time is 6:15 p.m. and we invite you to come and join us.

Wednesday is also “Patriot’s Day” and we will take the opportunity to honor those who lost their lives on 9-11. We don’t want to ever forget that day and all of the families who were touched by the lost lives. We will be remembering throughout the day.

Saturday is “Creamed Filled Donut Day.” We can’t think of a better holiday to celebrate. The girls have promised delicious, cream filled donuts and we are looking forward to these tasty treats.

We are looking forward to next Tuesday as we will be making our own Apple Dumplings. Does that not sound like fun? There is nothing better than fresh apples, brown sugar and pastry, our mouths are already watering.

The warm weather makes it almost feel like Indian Summer, balmy and warm. Just in time for some more porch sitting with friends. We’d love to spend some time with you.
