ASHTON — The fresh-soph Lady Raiders played in a three-day holiday tournament in Amboy.
They opened the tournament with a loss against Putnam County, 24-23. The Raiders came back from a 14-9 halftime deficit to tie the game. AFC’s defense kept Putnam County from scoring in the third quarter but a strong fourth kept the Raiders at bay. Camdyn Penick had 11 points and Becca Shupert added 5 in the loss.
The fresh-soph Lady Raiders continued play Wednesday against Amboy. A strong offensive effort by the Clippers, with all 10 of their players contributing points, led to their 42-16 win. Camdyn Penick and Hannah Atkinson each had seven points and Ashley O'Brien and Becca Shupert each were 1-2 from the free throw line.
The Raiders finished tournament play with a loss 51-16 to Ridgewood. AFC had a strong second half but couldn't overcome a 26-7 halftime deficit. Penick had eight points and Atkinson had four points.
