ASHTON — What started as a fun afternoon with friends for Ashton resident Sue Pascarella has turned into a hobby and a source of spending money.
Sue and some friends signed up to take a barn quilt painting class offered at the Mills and Petrie Building through Sauk Valley several months ago. She enjoyed the painting class so much that she started doing them on her own. Well, she does the painting, her husband Bill helps with preparing the boards, drawing the designs and sealing the painting so it can be displayed outside.
Sue estimates that she has completed about 60 paintings over the past year or so. She has taught three classes, one with a group of elderly women in Dixon, and she reports that the women had a blast.
Sue has done paintings that range in size from 1’ x 1’ to 8’ x 8’. She has taken her crafts to a couple of craft type shows, but has more success selling them from her own front yard.
She looks forward to continuing her painting and says that her husband has begun doing some interesting woodworking projects. Sue is employed as a staff manager for a home healthcare company and works from home.
Sue has done some custom paintings for customers and is willing to try just about anything. Prices vary by pattern and size. If you are interested in having a barn quilt done, you can contact Sue at 815-973-4522.
