ASHTON — The AFC Girls Basketball team went 3-1 at the Amboy Christmas Tournament last week to bring home second place.
The Raiders started the tournament with a 58-36 victory over Somonauk. Jaynee Prestegaard led all scorers with 27 points. Madeline Prestegaard had 16 points in the game. The Raiders got six points each from Jenna Thompson and Tristan Munroe. Sammy Smith had six assists for AFC.
The Raiders defeated Ridgewood in the second game of the tournament by a score of 51-39. Jaynee Prestegaard again led the Raiders with 29 points. Madeline Prestegaard scored 14 and Camdyn Penick added six in the win. Sammy Smith made key passes and ended with seven assists.
The third game of the tournament had the Raiders playing a talented Plano Reapers team. In one of their best games of the season, the Raiders defeated Plano 60-55. Jaynee Prestegaard ended the game with 34 points. Madeline Prestegaard scored all of her 16 points in the first half. Camdyn Penick gave a strong performance against the relentless pressure defense and also scored eight points.
In the championship game, the Raiders fell 55-33 to Hall. Jaynee Prestegaard had 10 points, Camdyn Penick had nine and Madeline Prestegaard had eight in the loss. The Raiders are 11-6 on the season.
