Not that we’re counting, but it’s only 17 more days until spring. The weather this past week has been a whole lot different than all of February and that makes us excited. The snow banks are about gone and we are hoping that there is green grass underneath them. It wouldn’t surprise us to see some robins very soon.
We have been enjoying our inside visits with our family and friends, it seems wonderful to be with our families and friends. Just a reminder that if you’d like to come visit just call the day before and we will be happy to schedule your visit, Monday thru Friday.
Our March Activity calendar tells us that this month is “National Therapy Month” and we are proud to say that our therapy staff is outstanding here at the center. Many of us have had therapy in the past six months and the Therapy staff is just wonderful. March is also “National Peanut Butter Month,” “Women’s History Month,” and “Irish Heritage Month.” You can be sure that we will be taking the opportunity to celebrate with lots of special events. In fact on St. Patrick’s Day we will have a special time with lots of Shamrock Shakes. We will tell you more about this right here next week in the Gazette.
We really loved our Monday afternoon of “Aroma Therapy.” The girls had brought all kinds of spring aromas for us to enjoy. We had almost forgotten how wonderful the smell of dirt could be! It got our creative juices going as we brainstormed what we would like to plant this year. The girls also had some fresh flowers with beautiful aromas. They also brought in some forsythia branches, not that you could smell them, but you could see the buds that are beginning to swell. We will be putting them in water in hopes that they will blossom soon.
Tuesday was “Dr. Suess Day” and the girls brought a wonderful variety of his books. We found - that most had really good advice for people to live by. Tuesday was also “Banana Cream Pie Day.” There was delicious banana cream pie for all to enjoy, mouth-watering good.
Wednesday is “Soup It Forward Day.” A really unique holiday that we will celebrate by taste-testing a variety of homemade soups. We really think that there is nothing better than homemade soup that has simmered with all the flavors blending together. We wish we could invite you to come and enjoy with us. We hope it won’t be too long before we can gather together again.
We are sending birthday greetings this week to Tom Satchell and Charlie Irwin who are both celebrating on March 2, to Dorothy Essex on March 5 , to Ken Giese on March 7 and to Rose Coss on the March 8. We wish you a lovely spring birthday celebration.
This coming Saturday is “National Oreo Cookie Day.” We will be tasting-testing a variety of Oreo Cookies and we have heard that there is quite a variety. It should be a fun afternoon. We will let you know our favorites next week here in the Gazette.
This next Tuesday the Men’s Club will be gathering for coffee and donuts. It will be nice for the guys to be able to gather again. We will also be busy starting some indoor plantings in preparation for an outdoor plot. This time of year it seems that everyone gets the “gardening itch” and we bet that many of you have it, too. We hope that you will be out your gardening magazines and start daydreaming. We’re pretty sure it won’t be too long and spring will be here. We can hardly wait.
